FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Are you certified?
Yes, I am a Certified Permanent Makeup Artist. I have taken several continuing education classes as well. I have invested a lot of time in money into my education and my prices do reflect that. Remember this is a tattoo on your face and you get what you pay for.
2. What is powder/ombré brows ?
It is a tattooing technique for clients who prefer fuller result than hairstrokes or Microblading but still very soft. It’s a technique which looks like daily makeup done with eyebrow pencil or eyebrow shadow. The tails of the brow are darker and fade into a light beginning to the brow, giving a perfect Ombre makeup affect. The result will be waterproof, smudge-proof and completely natural that can last 1-3 years. This technique is suitable for all skin types.
3. What other services do you offer?
Microblading
Combo Brows (Strokes with Shading)
Powder Brows
Ombré brows
Hairstrokes with Machine
Microneedling
Dermaplaning
4. Does it hurt?
Everyone has a different level of sensitivity so topical anesthetics can be applied during the treatment to alleviate any sensation or discomfort.
5. Is it safe?
Yes. Sterilized, disposable needles and supplies are used during the process. Safety of my clients is my first priority and very important to me.
6. Will I be swollen?
You might have some swelling and have slightly red skin around eyebrows, but this would last for a few hours.
7. Will I need a touch up after my initial appointment?
More often than not eyebrow tattoooing is a two step process, initial appointment and a touch up appointment 6-12 weeks after. Within 2 weeks of your first treatment the color will fade as much as 30% or more and lighter in color and sometimes patchy. To receive optimal results, a touch up is recommended. Please book your touch up appointment 6-12 weeks after your initial appointment. My appointments get booked fast and if you wait to book, I may not have any availability.
8. How often do I need a touch up?
In order to keep your eyebrow tattoo results looking fresh, a yearly touch up is recommended.
9. Why do I need a touch up?
Because color is implanted in the facial area there tends to be more fluid circulation than other parts of the body & your skin exfoliates over time. Your face sees the most wear of any piece of you—exposure to the sun, facial products & lifestyle all play a part. All of these things cause the color to fade, this is why you need a touch up.
10. How long does it take?
The procedure takes roughly about 2 1/2 hours, sometimes more or less. Please allow a solid 3 hour window for your appointment. I likely won’t need that much time, but this isn’t something I want to rush.
11. How long does it take to heal?
Healing time varies from individual to individual. Usually, it takes about a week to 14 days for the epithelial crust to form and slough off. Your skin will be considered healed after that happens. Then, the pigment takes some time to settle into the skin. A good month should pass before I consider the process complete.
12. What’s the process like?
Consultation is done the same day of your appointment. I will discuss the aftercare with you and have you sign the consent & medical history form. You will also get a written copy of the aftercare instructions to take home.
After taking your before photo, I will draw the brow design in pencil so you get an idea of shape and form. (Please note that nobody’s face is totally symmetrical and you need to be realistic with your expectations. There is no point in trying to make the eyebrows identical or match a photo of another person’s eyebrows if your face shape looks nothing like theirs.). Once we have agreed on a final shape (ultimately it is your decision. – but I will always voice my opinion on what I think suits you aesthetically). We will also discuss pigment color and what color best suits you before we begin.
13. How do I prepare for my appointment?
Your appointment will be rescheduled, and you will lose your deposit for failure to follow the pre-appointment preparation protocol.
Do not drink caffeine (coffee/tea/soda/energy drinks,..etc) or alcohol 48 hours prior to your appointment. Consuming alcohol or caffeine acts as blood-thinner. It will cause the skin to irritate and bleeding will reduce the pigment absorption as blood will push out the colors.
Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E or Advil/Ibuprofen 48 hours before procedure. (Please consult with your doctor before stopping any medication).
You should skip moisturizing for 24 hours as the drier the skin, the better the result.
No tinting for 3 weeks prior.
Do not wax, shave or pluck your brows. Every attempt is made to retain all natural hair and integrate it into the design of the permanent eyebrows. In some cases, where shaping of the natural brow is required, a few hairs here and there may need to be removed to create a clean and aesthetically pleasing result. .
Avoid tanning 1 week prior to your appointment.
Discontinue Glycolics, Chemical Peels, Retin-A and any eyebrow growth serums on or near your brows 2 weeks prior to and after your appointment to avoid them from fading fast.
If you use Botox or fillers, it should be performed 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after your appointment.
14. What are the aftercare instructions?
Day 1 – Gently blot the area 30 minutes after the procedure. Use a clean tissue or a cotton pad and a little bit of water and gentle soap. Don’t worry, this will not affect the pigment! Repeat this every 2-3 hours in order to avoid build-up of blood or lymph on the area. After gently wiping, apply a thin layer of ointment.
Day 2-3 – Carefully clean the area in the morning and in the evening. It is important to keep your brow area clean and free of bacteria. Make sure your hands are clean, and you use sterile water. Do not rub, tug or scrub the brows. After gently cleaning, apply a thin layer of ointment. Your eyebrows must not look greasy, glossy or shiny. If they do, you used too much. Also, when wiping the brows don’t make aggressive movements or manipulate the skin that way. It’s highly important to be gentle.
Day 4-14 – Continue cleaning your face every morning and evening with water and gentle soap. Do not use products that contain acids and exfoliants. Only use a gentle soap. After you wash your eyebrows, it is time to dry them. Do this by gently tapping a cotton pad or a soft tissue. Once you clean the eyebrow area, you may apply an extremely thin layer of ointment in a way you did it for the first couple of days after the treatment.
Avoid running water on the face area until scabs naturally peels off. If you don’t know how to avoid getting water on your brows while showering, please visit a salon to get your hair shampooed or you may use dry shampoo, and use face wipes to clean your face.
Do not scrub, scrap, rub or pick at the epithelial crust that forms. This could cause scarring, hair loss, and additional pigment loss – allow it to fall of naturally.
No working out (excess sweating) for at least a week.
No long hot showers and steam for 10 days.
No direct sun exposure. Once the area has healed completely, consider using a waterproof total sunblock when going out in the sun to help the color from fading.
No swimming for 1 month in Chlorine swimming pools, hot, tubs, and salt in seawater can fade out your color.
Sleep on your back or sleep in sitting position to avoid rubbing your brows on the pillow.
Very important to Sleep on a clean pillowcase.
Do not wear makeup or USE ANY FACIAL PRODUCT / TREATMENT on or near the treated area for 2 weeks. To extend the life of the procedure, avoid abrasive facial treatments and harsh facial products that may alter the color in the brow area.
15. What should I expect? Time frame of healing process vary per individual
Day 1 – 2: Brows will appear slightly thicker and darker than what you’ve expected. Sometimes may appear uneven because they may be swollen and some redness may still persist on some clients.
Days 3 – 14: Brows will be dry and itchy. Some clients slightly peel, while others may experience some scabbing. Once they start flaking, some areas of the eyebrows will fade more than others and as the pigment oxidizes, it will start to darken up again over a 3-4 week period. It may take up to four to six weeks for the true color to come through. Don’t be alarmed if the color seems to disappear during the healing process, this is due to layers of skin forming and is only temporary. We have no control over our body healing process, so please be patient. Any concerns can all be addressed during the touch up appointment.
16. If my brows were completed by a different artist, will my service be considered a touch up?
No. If your brows have been done by a different artist then your service will be considered an initial appointment. Coverups & Corrections done on previous work can be very complicated, time consuming, and 100% result cannot be guaranteed.
I require that anyone who has had their brows tattooed previously by another artist to send me clear pictures (full face front view and side views) before booking an appointment for Coverup & Correction.
If you book an appointment without disclosing previous cosmetic tattoo work, your deposit will be forfeited and your appointment cancelled.
17. I already have permanent makeup and want to change the shape. Can you help?
NOT ALL PREVIOUS WORK DONE BY ANOTHER ARTIST CAN BE FIXED OR COVERED. Covering previous tattoo can be possible if your old tattoo is 80% or lighter, but it might take a few sessions to correct. It can be more tricky to correct depending on how bad it is.
An average eyebrows tattoo correction usually 2 or more sessions, and much more time, and work than making new permanent eyebrows on virgin brows. Most permanent makeup corrections require client’s patience and dedication. Due to the amount time and work needed to repair bad permanent makeup tattoo the cost of repair is not negotiable. The cost and number of sessions can not be predetermined.
Again if you book an appointment without disclosing previous cosmetic tattoo work, your deposit will be forfeited and your appointment cancelled.
18. Will eyebrow tattooing harm any existing eyebrow hair?
No, it will not harm any existing eyebrow hairs, as hair growth is mainly affected by hormones, health, and to a lesser extent, nutrition. However in some clients, getting an eyebrow tattoo can possibly stimulate hair to grow in the area that the tattoo is done. When this happens it’s a real added bonus!
19. I have heard some clients just do not retain pigment even after a few visits. Could this happen?
Yes, it does happen and yes it’s true! Some skin may react to the trauma of the tattooing, and the skin may try to push out the foreign body of pigment by producing an extreme scab, so they eventually fall off taking all the pigment with it. There is a condition called Pigment Allergy (PPD Allergy, a condition known by dermatologists) or Auto Immune disease symptoms (the client may not even be aware of it). The skin would have overreacted and become super sensitive to the pigment and reject it at any cost.
20. Can you guarantee your work?
Unfortunately, I can’t. How the skin will react is different for everyone and many factors are to be taken into consideration. Post treatment aftercare, skin type, age, scarring, diet, stress levels, facial products used, old tattoo, etc. all play a key role in how the pigment will hold, which is why it is important to know that more than one touch up may be required. I can guarantee that your face is important to me and that I will act in accordance with my experience and expertise to give you my absolute best. I can guarantee that I will strive to make you very satisfied and content every time. But there are no guarantees in this industry. Please think long and hard before you decide to go for it.
21. What if I don’t like it?
The procedure does allow flexibility for color or shape change to some extent. However, I will work closely with you to ensure that you are satisfied with the proposed technique. If you do not like the decision you made, the Touch Up can be cancelled and the pigmented area naturally fades away over time but some pigment can still remain. If you aren’t 100% sure you would benefit from this procedure, please opt for a more temporary option.
••• WE CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR RESULT! WE WISH WE COULD, BUT PLEASE READ BELOW. DO YOU HAVE…
Very oily skin?
Enlarged pores on your forehead/face or acne prone skin?
Skin thats very sensitive or reactive?
Eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or melasma?
Really thick, dark, coarse eyebrow hair?
If you answered yes to any of these – sadly, microblading will not last very long on you and details may fade fast. Please keep this in mind when deciding to get tattooed. You may need additional appointments and/or frequent touch ups. A shaded/powder brow with machine may last longer and give better results, but results cannot be guaranteed! We can discuss your options during the consultation.
